Bird Watching

Situated at the tip of Australia's Cape York, Resort Bamaga (Cape York) is the home of Cape York Bird Week, which is held in January each year to coincide with the arrival of the last Migrant from New Guinea - the beautiful Red-bellied Pitta.

A host of birds can be seen in the areas of Resort Bamaga (Cape York) including Yellow Orioles, Brown-backed, Honeyeaters and Palm Cockatoos.

The main birding area is Lockerbie Scrub, an expanse of rainforest en route to the Tip of Cape York. Highlights are Magnificent Riflebirds, Trumpet Manucodes, Yellow-Legged Flycatchers, Frilled Monarchs and many more.
